Everything went well, only I have to be at hospital at 6 a.m. I looked on my GPS for hotels around the area, so I would not have to go far in the early a.m. and found a Marriott close by, thinking I might want to use the Room Service option... which later was a good idea.

Thursday night, went out to dinner with Kristin Smith at the Portland City Grill, which is a restaurant on the 30th floor, and has great views of Portland skyline.

Friday, surgery went well, took a lil longer than expected, but did get most of the bone that has been causing issues for years out.

I stayed in Portland for the night, used room service a few times... nothing like getting ice cream delived after 10 p.m.

I drove back to K Falls on Sat, taking my time and stopping a bit here and there... fighting off the sleepies and being as safe as I can... probably should not have been driving, but did not have any issues. I really do notice a difference in having it removed.. the feeling of a stiff neck and having the sensation of something poking the back of my throat when I turn my head are both gone. I am curious if this will lessen migraine's, head aches, and a few other things will improve.

I am taking the next few days in recovering... sad I had to have surgery to get multiple days off in mid-season.

First Sunday of the year

I have always liked to think of Sunday as a day of rest. Last night, after a home basketball game, I stayed out late and went to breakfast at Denny's... crawling home around 4:30. I had a lil trouble getting to sleep, with food and alcohol ... but after about three hours, fell to deep sleep. I finally got out of bed close to 4 in the afternoon... but felt good to really sleep in...

I watched the end of the Eagles-Vikings game, a movie part or two as I flipped channels, really not missing much by having a day truly off.

I have been asked a lot about my surgery at the end of this week... and really have not been thinking about it much. I am not doing any sort of denial, but really to me it is not a huge deal. I have been diagnosed with Eagle's Syndrome, and going to have a couple of bones that are not supposed to be that long, trimmed down. Hopefully, this will decrease the pain in my neck, lower the headaches, possibly minamize miagraines, and a few other symptoms.

Once I am recovered from this surgery, I hope that my training can begin for Race Across the West.

I really do not have any real news... but wanted to post something...

Upton

Race Across the West

It is January 1, 2009, and I thought I would start some things a new. You will find out more about me as time goes on, but wanted to start by anouncing something.

I am entered in the Race Across the West, it runs concurrently with the Race Across America and covers the first 1000 miles of the RAAM course finishing in Taos, NM. This is a real chance for competitors to test themselves on the RAAM course against the RAAM racers. The 1000 mile distance makes this a truly unique event. The time limit is 92 hours (3 days and 20 hours).

I hope to post almost daily, on training, family, relationships, and my overall outlook on life.
